World Teachers Day

There is a famous proverb that says:

“Teaching is a profession that creates all other Professions”

World Teachers Day

World Teachers’ Day held annually on 5 October, is an initiative by UNESCO, a day devoted to appreciating, assessing, and improving the educators of the world. The real point is to provide a time to look at and address issues pertaining to teachers.

Teachers’ Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of the role played by teachers all over the world. The responsibility for educating future generations is not a light one by any means, so show your support for these dedicated and important people not just on Teachers’ Day, but throughout the whole year.

Teachers are producing global citizens, so they are global teachers, who need to situate their advances on a global level. WTD is an opportunity to rethink national issues faced by teachers from an international perspective, to benchmark progress made by national teachers in a global context. UNESCO provides the best global context to address and exchange ideas across borders.

According to Education International, over 100 countries observe World Teachers’ Day and there are 401 member organisations who have contributed to this event.

Texila American University takes this opportunity to thank all the people who are part of this noble profession and who are the cause of producing good citizens to the country. We are also happy and proud of the students who are teachers in and around the world.

Choosing your career path………

There are two important decisions a man has to take in his life, There are two important decisions a man has to take in his life,

  • The first one is to decide on his career
  • The second is to choose an appropriate life partner

It is very important to choose the appropriate career because many a time it is the career which stays longer with the person than the life partner.

However, choosing a career is very challenging and it is influenced by many factors. It is quite common for a son or a daughter to choose the same profession of their parents, where as some choose their career based on their innate skills, these are very small percentage of individuals like Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Manny Pacquiao and Sachin Tendulkar.

Many others chose a career for its prestige, the remuneration and satisfaction. If you have not chosen your career path yet, then this article might be for you.

The Harris Poll Survey (2015) finds that DOCTORS top the list of Most Prestigious Occupations with an average base salary as $ 222,000. The LinkedIn data reveals the most promising jobs in USA are the DOCTORS.

However, becoming a medical student can be a daunting prospect and one will have to worker harder than the students of other profession. Once you have decided to become a doctor, the next imminent question is how easy it is to get an admission into a quality medical school.

Countries worldwide have their own eligibility criteria to enroll and train students. Some countries like in India it is extremely difficult to get admission, approximately 1.15 million (2017) compete for a mere 63,000 seats and it is almost impossible to get admission into a medical school. It remains to be a distant dream if one does not have money or if he is not a top ranker in the country, so they choose to travel to the east or western countries for medical education depending on their financial status.

Challenges in Studying Medicine in the East and West

The main challenges in countries like China and Russia are the languages secondly the difficulty in having hands on training and thirdly they don’t permit them to practice in their respective countries.

Whereas the challenges in studying in countries like USA and UK are, it is extremely expensive where even their own students will not be able to afford unless and until they are supported by federal loans.

Off late the Caribbean countries are gaining prominence in offering medical education and the fee structure is very affordable and some of the countries like Guyana are purely English speaking nation.

What is life as medical student?

A Medical student at a renowned University, share insights into life of a medical student, states that “You will be able to use what you learn for the rest of your life”. Yes – medical profession is the one which will stay longer in your life, so go ahead and take the most prestigious and challenging profession and make your life memorable.

Texila American University is listed among local entities embracing ‘green’ energy

Several organisations have been embracing the notion of green energy which is derived from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants, algae and geothermal heat. These energy resources are renewable and that can be naturally replenished.

Texila American University, a growing Medical School in the Caribbean with its best campus in Guyana is among the local entities that have started to embrace the notion of green energy. This has been particularly event at the institution’s Providence building which is designed to be fully green-compliant.

This development has been substantiated by the University’s Vice President of International Operations, Mr. Ashok Kumar.

“one of the ideas was to ensure that the building is as [green] energy efficient as possible. This included considering the key areas of natural light which directly impacts on the energy used in the building. We had experts who designed it in a way so that we can get [natural] light all the time.”

According to Kumar too, this design has even been incorporated into the air conditioning system that has been set up in its 100,000-square foot building, designed to cater to at least 1,000 students.

“If you look at the air conditioning system which we have implemented, it is a recent and modern technology which has some initial [high] investment but gives a lot of returns in the long run.”

But Kumar noted that despite all the energy-driven measures, the institution has plans to put in place a solar panel system. This is because “we have also designed it [the building] to run with solar…right now we have the design for solar energy, but we have not implemented it yet.”

“Other things we are looking at before we implement this, is how we can get the system where we can give back the excess amount of electricity to the grid. What experts have advised us is that when we are looking at an amount that we can power the entire building [with], obviously, we will have an excess which should be given to the grid,” Kumar explained.

He continued by pointing out that “the generation of these other sources will not be able to absorb all the excess load, so we will be looking forward very soon to do this…and government is also coming up with new regulations with respect to solar, so we are looking to see how quickly we can go completely solar,” Kumar added.
