On the whole, the first-year students of TAU gained an excellent experience and they expressed about having more activities like this in the future.

World Teachers Day

There is a famous proverb that says:

“Teaching is a profession that creates all other Professions”

World Teachers Day

World Teachers’ Day held annually on 5 October, is an initiative by UNESCO, a day devoted to appreciating, assessing, and improving the educators of the world. The real point is to provide a time to look at and address issues pertaining to teachers.

Teachers’ Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of the role played by teachers all over the world. The responsibility for educating future generations is not a light one by any means, so show your support for these dedicated and important people not just on Teachers’ Day, but throughout the whole year.

Teachers are producing global citizens, so they are global teachers, who need to situate their advances on a global level. WTD is an opportunity to rethink national issues faced by teachers from an international perspective, to benchmark progress made by national teachers in a global context. UNESCO provides the best global context to address and exchange ideas across borders.

According to Education International, over 100 countries observe World Teachers’ Day and there are 401 member organisations who have contributed to this event.

Texila American University takes this opportunity to thank all the people who are part of this noble profession and who are the cause of producing good citizens to the country. We are also happy and proud of the students who are teachers in and around the world.

Texila Medical Student – Not Just a Proud Moment – But A Vital Role in Supporting a New Entry into the World

Medical Student delivers baby during Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Emergency Flight

“We educate ourselves to lead comfortable lives in the future and get jobs to ensure the same. However, each speck of knowledge that we gain is meant for a purpose bigger than ourselves.”

A Guyana Defence Force’s aircraft was transformed into a delivery room on May 27th 2017 as a baby girl anxiously made her entrance into the world mid-air. In the statement given by the GDF Forces, the baby was born exactly at 05:48 pm during a scheduled flight out of Fairview; an Amerindian Village in the North Rupununi.

According to the sources, the mother had developed complications as the infant was in the breeched position and so a request was made for her to be air dashed to the city. Fortunately, a medical student from Texila American University was on board, who spearheaded the delivery and transported the mother to the city for emergency care and helped her come out of the complications.

The baby and mother were then transferred into the Georgetown Public Hospital for better treatments and wellbeing. Pilots, Major Mohinder Ramjag and Patrick Nicols were elated by the emergency medical service rendered by the Student of Texila American University and are also happy that both mother and child are safe.

This is the first known mid-air delivery, in recent times, that occurred on a GDF aircraft, the Forces said.

The GDF Forces appreciated the emergency medical service rendered by our Student and concluded that she continues her good work to help save many more lives.

Texila American University is listed among local entities embracing ‘green’ energy

Several organisations have been embracing the notion of green energy which is derived from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants, algae and geothermal heat. These energy resources are renewable and that can be naturally replenished.

Texila American University, a growing Medical School in the Caribbean with its best campus in Guyana is among the local entities that have started to embrace the notion of green energy. This has been particularly event at the institution’s Providence building which is designed to be fully green-compliant.

This development has been substantiated by the University’s Vice President of International Operations, Mr. Ashok Kumar.

“one of the ideas was to ensure that the building is as [green] energy efficient as possible. This included considering the key areas of natural light which directly impacts on the energy used in the building. We had experts who designed it in a way so that we can get [natural] light all the time.”

According to Kumar too, this design has even been incorporated into the air conditioning system that has been set up in its 100,000-square foot building, designed to cater to at least 1,000 students.

“If you look at the air conditioning system which we have implemented, it is a recent and modern technology which has some initial [high] investment but gives a lot of returns in the long run.”

But Kumar noted that despite all the energy-driven measures, the institution has plans to put in place a solar panel system. This is because “we have also designed it [the building] to run with solar…right now we have the design for solar energy, but we have not implemented it yet.”

“Other things we are looking at before we implement this, is how we can get the system where we can give back the excess amount of electricity to the grid. What experts have advised us is that when we are looking at an amount that we can power the entire building [with], obviously, we will have an excess which should be given to the grid,” Kumar explained.

He continued by pointing out that “the generation of these other sources will not be able to absorb all the excess load, so we will be looking forward very soon to do this…and government is also coming up with new regulations with respect to solar, so we are looking to see how quickly we can go completely solar,” Kumar added.
