Pharmaceutical analysis holds a special place in pharmaceutical industry. Moreover, the quality of pharmaceutical products is paramount in assuring the safety and efficacy of medicines. By the time a medicine finds its way on the shelves, a number of steps would have taken place in ensuring the quality of the medicines. Gone are the days when testing the end product was the focus. Nowadays emphasis is on building quality into the product. Nonetheless, Pharmaceutical analysis as a tool is essential in testing pharmaceutical raw materials, intermediates and finished products. The following techniques are applied;

1. Titrimetric techniques

2. Chromatographic techniques

3. Spectroscopic techniques

4. Electrochemical techniques

5. Kinetic method of analysis

6. Electrophoretic methods

7. Flow injection and sequential injection analysis

8. Hyphenated techniques

The cost of running a pharmaceutical quality control laboratory is high but the consequences of defective products could result in litigation and bankruptcy. Therefore investing in an accredited quality control laboratory would save the company a lot of troubles and benefit the end user (patient).
